Course Outline

GCSE Product Design

In Product Design students will study materials, processes and design issues. The course is delivered through themed projects and focused practical tasks. In Y11 the students will undertake the controlled assessment task which is currently to design and make a MP3 docking station. This will involve designing and making a practical outcome and producing a portfolio. The controlled assessment task is worth 60% of the total award. At the end of Year 11 the students will sit a written exam worth 40% of the total award.

BTEC Level 1 Engineering

BTEC Engineering provides an introduction to some of the key themes within the engineering sector, enabling students to develop & apply their knowledge while also acquiring a range of relevant practical, communication and technical skills.

The qualification provides an engaging & relevant introduction to the world of engineering. Students will learn how to work safely in engineering and then go on to develop skills in using tools and machinery to make & assemble engineering components.

The course prepares students for progression to a level 2 vocational course in engineering or an apprenticeship.
