Curriculum Overview 2017/18

At Mexborough Academy we aim to personalise the curriculum to meet all students' needs; we feel very strongly that a bespoke and fit for purpose curriculum provides the building blocks on which good teaching and learning can take place. The integration of vocational and academic subjects make sure attainment is rising, including in the two core subjects of English and mathematics, providing each student with more opportunities at the end of Year 11.

KS3 – Year 7 - Features

 A broad range of subjects which include: English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, French, Drama, Music, Art, Computing, PE, Design & Technology, and Resilience.

  • Students are placed in teaching groups according to ability on entry for English, Maths and Science and are taught as mixed ability groups for the remainder of the curriculum. Sets are reviewed regularly.
  • Some students are supported by intensive support in a small group setting with  additional periods of core skills to develop literacy and numeracy

 KS3 – Year 8 – Features

A broad range of subjects which include: English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, French, Drama, Music, Art,Computing, PE, Design & Technology and Resilience

 KS3 – Year 9 – Features

A broad range of subjects which include: English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, French, Drama, Music, Art,Computing, PE, Design & Technology and Resilience

 KS4 – Years 10 & 11 – Features

 Students follow core subjects in English, Maths, Science, PE

  • Students choose 1 Ebac subject – French, History, Geography, Computing
  • Students choose from RE, Computing, Music, Drama, Product Design, Business Studies, Art, PE, Child Development, Psychology, Dance, Triple Sciences and Engineering, BTEC Sport, Film Studies, Business & Enterprise and Voctional ICT.
